3 powerful reasons why you should adopt a 'listening attitude'

Over the past few days I have encountered a new word in many of my different news feeds. Listening.

Of course it’s not a 'new' word, the verb form is old and very familiar.

What is new though, is that I have encountered the imperative form of it.

Listen!

Well, that form is not really new either. How many times have we not been told to listen?

'Listen here, son!’

'You should listen to this!’

And the form the word takes when someone, probably a leader or boss, craves for attention and demands subordinates to listen to endless monologues at seemingly endless meetings.

My discovery is a completely different form of listening.

In a way it reminds me of a meditative and soothing form of listening. Not passively, but actively and with compassion.

Listening with intent!

The intent to do good, and to support.

This form of listening is probably at the core of what many refer to as good leadership.

Without the ability to listen, how can you ever be a even remotely good leader?
